Understanding How Dental Insurance Really Works
We're a total-health practice, and want to give our patients the highest possible quality of care. To keep that standard, we want to share a few truths about traditional dental insurance: the more you know, the better you can choose what's right for you.
Your dental insurance is a contract between your insurance company and your employer. Some plans let you choose your dentist freely, while others limit you to a short list. At Getz Dental, we believe you should always have the right to choose the dentist you trust. If you’re unsure which plan gives you that freedom, it’s worth asking your employer or insurance provider directly.
Because it hasn’t evolved in decades. In the 1980s, the average dental plan covered $1,000 a year, and guess what? It still does. Adjusted for inflation, that should be more like $8,000 today. So while premiums keep going up, benefits haven’t budged.
That’s insurance-speak for “we made up a number.” These so-called ‘customary’ rates are calculated by insurance companies to benefit them, not you. Most private, quality-focused practices will always show higher fees because we use the best materials, labs, and technology to give you lasting results.
Because dental insurance isn’t designed to cover modern dentistry, it limits it. Many preventive or advanced treatments aren’t included because insurance companies rarely update what they consider “necessary.” But your health deserves better than 40-year-old standards.

Our membership plan does not include procedures completed outside of our office. In-house financing cannot be used with our membership plan or you forfeit the 10% discount.
