What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is a cosmetic procedure that uses a moldable resin to cover imperfections in the teeth. The resin matches the natural shade of the teeth and is hardened to stay in place. Dental bonding is a completely reversible procedure, so patients can smile without fear of damaging teeth or needing invasive dental work in the future.

What are the advantages of dental bonding?

- Dental bonding can be completed in a single visit.

- Dental bonding is less expensive than other cosmetic treatments.

- Dental bonding is non-invasive, so there’s no need for anesthesia or dental sedation.

- Dental bonding is effective at masking dental imperfections, such as chips, cracks, and stains.

- Dental bonding is stain-resistant.

What are the disadvantages of dental bonding?

While dental bonding is a fast, cost-effective way to improve the appearance of your smile, there are a few disadvantages that you should be aware of.

First, because dental bonding material requires the use of a dental adhesive, it is not a reversible procedure. This means that once the bonding material has been applied to the tooth, you will need to commit to living with the results.

Second, dental bonding does not last as long as other cosmetic dental treatments. While the bonding material may last up to ten years, the bonding material can chip or crack over time. You may also notice discoloration or staining of your bonding material over time, which can make your teeth appear dull and stained.

Is dental bonding right for me?

If you are looking for a way to quickly improve the appearance of your smile, dental bonding could be a good option for you. However, dental bonding might not be a good option for you if you have decay, gum disease, or existing dental work already.

What should I expect when getting dental bonding?

When you come to our office with tooth pain or for cosmetic reasons, we will thoroughly examine your teeth. Based on our findings, we will recommend the best treatment. If dental bonding would be best for your situation, we will prepare your tooth. This involves cleansing the surface and applying a bonding material. We will then shape and smooth the material to your tooth. Once the bonding material has hardened, we will polish it and make any final adjustments.

Questions to ask your dentist before getting dental bonding.

Some patients prefer dental bonding to veneers. Dental bonding is a more affordable option, and patients don’t have to worry about the placement process, which can require the removal of tooth enamel.

Questions to ask your dentist before getting dental bonding include:

- Will the procedure require local anesthesia? If so, your dentist will numb the area and make you as comfortable as possible.

- Can the procedure be completed in a single visit? Some procedures require multiple visits.

- Will the procedure improve the appearance of your bonding and teeth?

- Will the procedure improve the health and strength of your teeth?

Dental bonding vs

Dental bonding is a very simple procedure that typically takes less than an hour to complete. Dental bonding is an affordable solution, costing about half the price of porcelain veneers. Dental bonding is a less permanent option, however. If you’d like your teeth to be whiter, straighter, and more even, dental bonding may be the ideal option.
